Our Story

Our story began in the fall of 2019 at NBC Sports Chicago. Alyssa would come in weekly to the downtown studio to audition for a show on the network “High School Lites,” while Matt was a producer at the station. Once Alyssa landed the gig, Matt said to himself, "It’s showtime!” Matt would write Alyssa’s scripts, make sure she knew the correct pronunciations of the various high school athletes' names, and alert her once the highlights for the show were in the system. A gentleman from day one. One too many times Alyssa would edit the script to her liking and learned early on that Matt is always right. After the late night show, Matt would kindly ask Alyssa for a ride back to the West Loop, despite her living in the suburbs at the time. Without hesitation, Alyssa obliged. Alyssa quickly picked up on the fact that Matt would walk 2+ miles to work, in the winter nonetheless, simply to spend more time with Alyssa on the ride home. Fast forward 4+ years later, Alyssa is now forever the passenger princess in Matt’s car. 

Whether they are attending various sporting events together (important to note Alyssa's non-negotiable is a White Sox fan) enjoying a top-notch meal at their favorite spot, Chicago Cut, or simply cooking dinner together in their West Loop apartment, Alyssa and Matt are a match made in heaven. 

Matt pulled off the surprise of a lifetime asking Alyssa for her hand in marriage on the Rivewalk outside of (you guessed it) Chicago Cut on September 7th, 2024. The surprise didn’t end there. Matt threw a beautiful party upstairs with their closest friends and family to celebrate their engagement and the beginning of forever. 

Our hearts have been overflowing with love and gratitude since, and we are counting down the days until we can celebrate our love alongside the ones that mean the most to us. We thank you in advance for spending our special day with us, and cheers to the Roaring Rooneys!
